Question
What is an ISBN number?
Answer
The International Standard Book Number, or ISBN, is a unique commercial book identifier. The ISBN system is based on the 9-digit Standard Book Numbering (SBN) code created in the United Kingdom in 1966 by the booksellers and stationers W.H. Smith and others. The 10-digit International Standard Book Number (ISBN) format was developed by the International Organization for Standardization and published as an international standard, ISO 2108, in 1970. (However, 9-digit SBN codes continued in use in the UK until 1974.) ISO TC 46/SC 9 is now responsible for the standard.

Question
What is the Dewey Decimal Classification?
Answer
The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC, also called the Dewey Decimal System) is a proprietary system of library classification developed by Melvil Dewey in 1876, and has since then been greatly modified and expanded through twenty-two major revisions, the most recent in 2004.
The DDC attempts to organize all knowledge into ten main classes. The ten main classes are then further subdivided. Each main class has ten divisions, and each division has ten sections. Hence the system can be summarized in 10 main classes, 100 divisions and 1000 sections. DDC's advantage in choosing decimals for its categories allows it to be both purely numerical and infinitely hierarchical.
